Tips for Teaching Sensitive Abuse Topics: Child Abuse and Elder Abuse
Students in healthcare and educational fields share an important commonality: all of these future workers will become mandated reporters. Unfortunately, researchers have generally found that most mandated reporters have inadequate training on identifying and reporting child abuse and elder abuse. Ensuring mandated reporters are adequately trained is essential in promoting positive outcomes for the people they serve. In this free presentation, you’ll get ideas for engaging today’s students in these sensitive topics, including tools for creating realistic simulations and role-play scenarios. You’ll also hear from NE FCS teacher Joan Hines, who successfully implemented our Elder Abuse Training Kit in her classroom.
