SAGE Publishing in collaboration with The Conversation and the Campaign for Social Science is hosting an exciting panel event to celebrate LGBTQIA+ History Month in the UK.
With expertise in teaching, government legislation, and activism, the panelists will be discussing campaigns of the past, present, and future impacting the LGBTQIA+ community in the UK.
This event will be moderated by Stephen Harris, News Editor at The Conversation, an independent news platform, with content sourced by researchers and academics. Some of the key themes we’ll be covering in the event include:
– How historical legislation impacted — and is still impacting — the LGBTQIA+ community, such as Section 28, marriage equality, and Gender Recognition Act.
– How current legislation impacts the LGBTQIA+ community, such as the conversion therapy ban, gender self-identification, and sex and relationships education in schools, with lessons to learn for the future.
– Future campaigns, projects and research from our panelists that will impact the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as how we can maintain human rights for LGBTQIA+ people around the world.
Panellists
– Adam Jowett, Associate Head for Psychological, Social & Behavioural Sciences at Coventry University and lead author of Government commissioned research on conversion therapy.
– Natacha Kennedy, Lecturer in Education, Goldsmiths University and a background in primary school teaching, researcher of transgender issues and campaigner for transgender human rights.
– Catherine Lee, Deputy Dean for Education at Anglia Ruskin University and on the UK Pride Power List for her research into LGBT teachers.
