SOPHE announces Dr. LaNita Wright as the new editor of its Health Promotion Practice journal

Dr. LaNita Wright is an associate professor of public health and the public health education program director at Kennesaw State University. She teaches undergraduate courses pertaining to public health theory, public health writing, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Dr. Wright, who has served on the journal’s editorial board since 2019, most recently as an editorial director, is equally excited and honored to take over the journal.

“I am honored and elated to serve as the next editor of Health Promotion Practice,” Dr. Wright said. “I chose to publish much of my own work in Health Promotion Practice because of the priorities of the outgoing editor and the board, and because of the respect and notoriety of the journal for centering practitioners’ and community members’ voices.

In addition to her work with Health Promotion Practice, Dr. Wright also serves on the editorial board of Health Behavior Research and understands how peer-reviewed periodicals play an important role in higher education.

“I value scholarly publications that include investigation and illumination of systems,” she said. “I look forward to bringing this systems perspective by challenging prospective authors to clearly detail the systems at play, challenging reviewers to provide meaningful feedback to authors to facilitate deeper thinking and reporting, and maintaining/recruiting a diverse editorial board who can speak to the various systems in which people operate.”

Health Promotion Practice, one of SOPHE’s three peer-reviewed journals, is a forum for authoritative research, commentary, practical tools and promising practices that strategically advance the art and science of health promotion and disease prevention.

Thanks to Dr. Roe for her leadership

Dr. Kathleen Roe, outgoing editor, for her outstanding service leading the Health Promotion Practice Journal, expanding its impact and influence, and serving as an important voice on critical issues in public health education. Dr. Roe will work with Dr. Wright to ensure an effective transition.
