Applying to CDC Evaluation Fellowship

Applicants for the Fellowship go through an extensive selection process, including interviews with potential host programs. The
process culminates in a match with a CDC host program based on mutual interest.

Eligibility Criteria

The following are the Fellowship eligibility criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a green card status that is valid for at least two more years from the start of the
    Fellowship (mid-August).
  • Have significant applied program evaluation experience and be able to document three projects that demonstrate the depth and breadth
    of the evaluation experience
  • Have a doctoral or master’s level degree from an accredited academic institution in a field relevant to CDC’s work

Required Materials for Your Application

The application deadline is March 14, 2021 11:59 PM EST. Incomplete or late applications will not be
considered. Only complete application packages that include all of the following will be considered:

  1. Submit online application external icon. Make sure to write your responses in advance as you must complete this section in one sitting; you cannot exit and return to your survey. The
    specific question prompts from the application form are the following:

    • List any special skills, research topics/experience, or other areas of expertise that you have. (200 words)
    • Describe any areas of interest that you would like to develop. (200 words)
    • Briefly provide some information on your formal training (classroom or otherwise) where all or part of the focus was on program
      evaluation approaches, methods, techniques, etc. Be specific, although course titles for all courses are not necessary.
      A bulleted or numbered list is acceptable. (200 words)
    • Briefly describe up to three evaluation projects you have worked on. What was the project about and what was your role in it?
      (150 words for each project)
    • Please provide a short essay on your qualifications for the Evaluation Fellowship and what you would like to get out of it.
      (450 words)
  1. Email your resume/CV, official transcripts, and copy of Green Card (if applicable) using the subject line “Application:
    Last Name, First Name” to CDCEval@CDC.GOV. All documents must be in English or include an
    official English translation.

    • Resume/CV including academic history, employment history, relevant experiences, and publication list. Please
      use this naming convention “LastName_FirstName_CV_Resume” for your document.
    • Transcripts: You must submit official transcripts for your qualifying degree(s). Please use this naming convention
      for your transcript “LastName_FirstName_Transcript_Degree”.

       

      • Your qualifying degree is likely your most recent and/or the one most related to the Fellowship. Please also submit official transcripts for your lower degree(s) that is STEM if your qualifying degree is in a non-STEM field. Public health degrees (e.g., MPH, DrPH) are considered STEM. Here are examples of non-STEM master’s degree: Master
        of Public Policy, Master of Art, Master of Public Administration, Master of Developmental Practice, Master of Education.
      • Transcripts must be official and state your degree of study, courses taken, earned grades, and graduation date.
      • If the transcript is issued by a non-U.S. institution, you need to provide a certifying letter that demonstrates equivalent
        to USA accredited academic institution.
      • Transcripts marked “issued to student” are acceptable. If your academic institution does not have electronic official
        transcripts available, then please discuss with the Fellowship at CDCeval@cdc.gov.
      • Applicants who will complete their degrees in the Spring semester of the application year are also eligible to apply.
        Please submit your unofficial transcript by the application deadline. However, Fellows must have conferred their
        qualifying degree and submitted their official transcript to be selected and hired. Please work with the Fellowship
        if this situation applies to you.
    • Green Card: If you are a U.S. permanent resident with green card status, provide a copy of your green card
      with a current appointment date. The green card must be valid for at least two more years from the start of the Fellowship
      (mid-August). Please use this naming convention ”LastName_FirstName_Greencard”
  1. Have 2 educational or professional references submit letters of recommendations. The letters must
    • Have at least reference from a person who is not currently employed at the CDC
    • Be signed and dated within one year of submission
    • Be addressed to “To Whom it May Concern” or “Human Resources Office, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” and be specific
      to the CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program application
    • Have your references email your letter of recommendation to CDCeval@cdc.gov using the
      subject line “Reference: Applicant Last Name, First Name” and using this naming convention for the file “ApplicantLastName_FirstName_ReferenceName”
