The United States’ COVID-19 response has tested the capacity of our governmental public health system, including our workforce of highly dedicated
public health professionals. Urgent efforts to scale up the human resources required to respond to COVID-19 required creativity, innovation,
and flexibility.
This webinar will explore staffing models and strategies that ASTHO, state health agencies, and their partners used to support state and territorial
COVID-19 response activities with an eye toward future efforts to expand the governmental public health workforce. A question-and-answer period
will follow the presentations.
Speakers:
- Judy Monroe, president and CEO, CDC Foundation.
Monroe will describe the CDC Foundation initiative to hire and deploy hundreds of surge staff in support of public health response across the country.
- Cassandra Thompson, director of preparedness and disability integration, ASTHO.
Thompson will overview an administrative partnership that supported staffing to health agencies in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She
will also discuss a collaboration with a staffing partner, Wanderly, that supported 12 disability and preparedness positions in state and territorial
health agencies.
- Robert Longyear, vice president of digital health and innovation, Wanderly.
Longyear will describe how a digital staffing marketplace was used to rapidly support vaccination and testing programs across the country. These
efforts supported the Georgia Emergency Management Agency’s drive-through sites, community vaccination sites operated by Massachusetts’ Beth
Israel Lahey Health, and a testing deployment program with Humana.
